VOLUME #1 LAUNCH EVENT
Last Friday May 6, VOLUME # 1 was literally launched by Wubbo Ockels, Holland’s pride in space, who as the first Dutch astronaut in 1985 flew on the Space Shuttle Challenger.The launch event in Amsterdam was hosted by Athenaeum Newscentre on the Spui, and newscentre director Maarten Ascher received the first issue from editor-in-chief Ole Bouman. ‘To Beyond or Not to Be’ is the theme title for this first issue of Volume. Wubbo Ockels pointed out that Going Beyond is an great and inconceivable endeavour, but that to value and understand this ultimate freedom and infinite space will require at least some point of reference. After a communal countdown VOLUME #1 was launched in a colourful cloud alongside a 1:20 model of the Ariane rocket.
